Two rivers and their riverscapes are meeting in this episode of the International Village Show: Vechte and Scheldt.
The Belgium area of Vlassenbroek, where the Scheldt currently crosses as a river, is currently being transformed into a massive flood plain, anticipating higher sea water levels in the future. The river will disappear and the landscape is changing dramatically.
Wapke has been following this transformation in her project ‘Tekeningen in Vlassenbroek’ (Drawing in Vlassenbroek) and is showing results, drawings and the book in Leipzig.
The Vechte area is contributing with two new village goods for the International Village Shop, and both are addressing soil fertility and soil quality. ‘EschF6’, an anthropogenic soil (black earth) has been produced together with the municipal construction management team in Grafschaft Bentheim, and the ‘Confectie Boxes’ have been developed with Tuinen Mien Ruys in Dedemsvaart, NL.
